What is my Sharry Baby Growing?

Hi! I've had this Sharry Baby for about 5 years now and it has bloomed every year. This is the first time I have seen a growth like this on the flower stalk. Is it a mutant flower or is it something else? It isn't even growing from the normal spot I would expect a flower. Any ideas? I can try getting a better picture with my actual camera if necessary.
