Question Trying to salvage a Phal

I bought a poor looking discounted Phal a couple days ago but couldn't get to it until today. When I pulled it out of the pot the two leaves it had on it fell off. The stem was completely brown so I cut it off as well. It seems to have some good roots (along with a lot of dead ones I cut off) and my question is:

Without leaves or stem and just a whole ball of roots that are so water logged you could just about squeeze water out of them, will the plant survive and can I actually grow it into something?

Thanks,

Sunshine

It might develop a baby on the surviving stem, but that is a long shot. I think you got to it too late. I hope it wasn't expensive.

Thanks. No, it wasn't expensive. I bought it discounted. It doesn't have a stem. No stems - no leaves. I don't think it has much chance of surviving, if any, but I thought I'd try. I just can't throw it away if there's a tiny chance.

Just wasn't sure how to handle it.

No leaves=no photosynthesis. The chances are pretty slim that roots alone would be able to generate a new growth. Chalk it up to experience and tug a bit on the leaves of the next rescue you take a liking to.

I think that's a good lesson learned, indeed. Thanks.
