Late night insomnia...stumbled across this old thread. Excellent historical reference. I wonder if Jenny, super moderator from Indiana is still around?

Hi Guys,
I am not sure if I am writing under the correct thread or not.
But at this point of time I am getting MAD and whats driving me to this point is that - I live in India and I cant not find ANY way to get my hands on this complete pristine beauty - Neofinetia Falcata.
I have tried all the Orchid Nurseries in India and none of them have it.
Can somebody please help me, anyway possible, to get me my first of this gorgeous orchids?

There are two countries that have large nurseries: Japan and South Korea. Japan is the larger market. All of my Neofinetia are imported from Japan. If you have contacts in either country, you might find a way to import them to Bangalore. You live in a lovely city.

Avik, go to your internet application and do a search for Seed Engei, Japan. They have a branch here in the USA, but they do a lot of business and their headquarters is in Japan.

Yikes! That is a lot of money! Do you have or are you part of an Orchid Society? Maybe you can get other people interested in acquiring Neofinetia and share the expense? While these are relatively easy to get in the USA, the average cost for a Neofinetia is US$50.00--that is for plants that have any merit or desirable feature.

I have some relatives in US...I am thinking of requesting them to collect one from me and then to ship it to me here in India..though I have import permit in India..I dont know if they need some document to ship it through Fedex or DHL even if they mention it as a gift..am I breaking some law in the process?

That is a way to go...it think it is easier to export a plant out of the US than to import into the US. You should be very clear with import permits to India. Check out USDA.gov to see what the regulations are for exporting live plants.
