speckled leaves normal?

(one of these days, i'll be able to post somewhere else besides the newbie section! lol)

i just purchased my 3rd orchid saturday...it's a Dtps. Jetgreen 'Mantefon'. totally thought this was a fake name or at least a misplaced tag until i did a little research. anyway, i didn't notice it in the store, but the leaves on this lil guy are speckled. i know that they say spots on your leaves is a bad sign, but this looks like it could be a normal pattern to me. all but one of the leaves have this pattern heavily over the surface, while one of the bigger leaves is mostly solid green with some slight speckling near the base and end. hopefully somebody can put my mind at ease here and tell me that it's normal

here's a pic of one of the leaves, and of course it's pretty little purple blooms.

the speckled leaves are normal. it's a very nice plant. many phalaenopsis species and hybrids have interesting leaf patterns.
the AOS Culture sheet for Phalaenopsis has good information on how to take care of it.

Kip is right, this kind of leaf speckling is normal in a Phal. Your hybrid most likely has either Phal schilleriana or Phal stuartiana in the parentage somewhere, both of those species have patterened leaves.

Enjoy your new phal. It's very charming.

If you like speckled leaves, you're going to get "hooked" on these type of phals because they're always pretty, with or without flowers.

We currently have a growing project for the Phal Naples Night, a compact phal with speckled leaves. Brandank has mounted his plants and Patti has a pic posted of her plant in bloom. Check it out. You'll be "hooked."

How pretty! I like the color and the leaves. I like the mottled leaves because there's something interesting to look at when it's not in bloom, too!
