Wrinkle-leaved vanda

I have one vanda outside with all my others in an 'almost full sun' spot w/misters closeby for humidity and to help keep the temp down a little. It's been pretty hot here lately! 90 to 103,at times. Only one of them has gotten almost totally wrinkly. Another, just a few leaves. I soak them all in the morning [in tubs]and when it's really hot, again with hose later in day. I think it is probably heat stress causing the wrinkles. But not sure, thinking about moving the wrinkly one back in sunroom. Any suggestions?

Is there any media in the pots/baskets? It may be that the plants are losing moisture thru the leaves faster than your method of watering allows them to take it in. Beyond that , can't help as I grow mine in a greenhouse. Cynthia

I had the same problem with one of my vandas. All the others are doing fine and some are blooming for the second time since April. I was lucky to win the Fairchild Garden raffle back in April and won a whole collection. The wrinkled one is growing but doesn't look as good as the others. The others are in baskets without medium. The wrinkled one is tied to a tree.

I have a lot of vandas in direct sun and temps to 95. Many have had wrinkled leaves all winter in our dry season and filled out recently

I would prefer to leave it out as they will not flower with indoor light. Soaking will give the plant plenty of water.

You should still see green tips on the growing roots.

I would never grow my vandas in full sun. By vandas, I mean pure strap vandas not mokaras or arandas or terete, half terete or quarter terete vandas. The mokaras and arandas can tolerate full sun if correpondingly high humidity is provided. The terete ones can take the full sun more easily. I am talking with reference to my area (tropical Mauritius!) and I don't know how hot the sun can be in your area.

So I would recommend you to bring back your wrinkled vanda to a shade house at least up to the time it recovers full vigor.
