name abreviations

I just purchased an orchid at a show and the tag read "Epy. Serena O'Neill". I have tried doing google searches for it but it keeps getting hung up on the "Epy." Does anyone have a cheat sheet of name abreviations...or, more specifically, know what "Epy." stands for?

Epy. = Encyclia x Epidendrum
Here is a great glossary of name abbreviations - http://www.orchids.mu/Glossary/Glossary_E.htm

Could be a typo too. Try Epi. Cynthia

Thanks very much for the link Mike. I'll be keeping that one on file.

Cynthia, thanks for your reply. I tried searching with that abreviation too and Google didn't come up with anything. I can't believe that I have something unusual. Have you heard of "Epy. Serena O'Neill" before and/or know where I can find some information on it?

Thanks very much!

Greg

There are almost 300,000 named varieties of orchids and many more that are not registered. You will just not be able to find information on everything.

In general just rely on the family for care and enjoy the flowers when they arrive. Epy I would treat the same as cattleyas. They often do very well mounted.
