Smile New member, info on Blc (tainanGold x Chunyeah)

Hi all,
Lowes had a 50% off sale on their Orchids and I bought a bunch. Have been able to find information on all except one: HC265 Blc. (TainanGold x Chunyeah). If anyone can help me find a photo and/or info on size, I think it will be medium to large, please reply. It is not to far away from sheathing, I think, and needs repotting but I don't want to hurt the new bloom.

Nice meeting you all,

Hello and welcome to the forum! Congrats on getting a bunch of orchids.

I would start here:

AOS | Culture Sheets

This will help with general culture of your orchids. The Blc. will follow general Cattleya culture.

Do you have any pictures of your new treasures?

Your orchid is registered as Blc Lui's Joyance.

Both parents are large 5-6 inch flowers bright yellow and 3/4 red lip. They both tend to circle the lip in red.

There were a lot of crosses of Blc Chunyeah in 2003 when this cross was made. Most do not vary much from the parent and I have not seen anyone re-making the cross since then.

The color variety on the pictures has no significance on a seed cross. All color varieties crossed are the same registered plant. The Tainan Gold in the picture has more red than is average for the variety.

Here the Orchids I purchased:
BLC Liu’s Joyance
SLC India Rose Sherwood ‘Kiilani’
BLC Lily Marie Almas
SLC Hawaiian Splach ‘Lea’
LC Green Veil ‘Dressy’
BLC Penney’s Spot ‘Hawaiian Dream’ This one is very interesting as the leaves are really nice; the inflorescence is long lived and strong scented. It is called a novelty Orchid and if anybody can tell me why they call it a 'novelty' I would like to know. I have two of them and both are producing what looks like a pseudobulb. I will take pictures and post them - it is a beautiful plant.

Hi Jay, and all,
have just uploaded pict of BLC Penny’s spot, a very interesting plant. Perhaps you could tell me why they call it a novelty Orchid. More Photos to come as I learn my way around.
