Question Repot my orchid?

I inherited an orchid from my mother when she passed away this December. She had it forever. It has bloomed twice but the blooms died back this time before they finished. I have noticed a lot of roots coming out of the pot. Can and how do I repot it? I'm so worried about hurting it!

yes, and can you tell us where you're located? (different climates require different media...)

Hello and welcome to the forum!

As already stated, we need a little more information to be able to help. If you have a picture of it, this will certainly help clarify additional questions.

Hi there! Im sorry to hear about your mother, but I am sure she is very happy with the concern you are taking for her orchid.

OK..well, I am also new at this and needed to repot my orchid for the first time. I am one of those people that wants to make sure I do everything right and I like step-by-step instructions that not only are simple but also explain everything.

After looking on the internet through tons of web pages, I found one that helped me SO MUCH! It includes large pictures with each step so that you can see what is being done. From the beginning to the end.

I am positive this will help you with repotting. And if you need tools, pots, media, fertilizer ect. this site has it all at reasonable prices. It is where I ordered my plastic pots, fert. and moss from. They even let you create your own potting mixture if you wanted.

STEP-BY-STEP CLINIC FOR REPOTTING (with pictures to guide you!!)

Goodluck!-you'll be fine! I really hope this helps!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. I'm a recent orphan too.

Phals have aerial roots (the roots you have outside of the pot) and they are completely normal. Some have more than others. If they are green and firm your Mom's orchid is healthy and happy. Phals love to be repotted, so it couldn't hurt. However, you shouldn't expect to get all of the aerials into the pot. Make sure you get them wet as well when you water your plant.

And Welcome to the forum!!!!

Condolences and it's great that you are taking care of her plant. Welcome and best wishes. I think the type of orchid would help and maybe a picture of it too.
