happy orchids Hi, to everybody I have two happy orchids - I'm quite sure they are! because they have rich flowers and started new leaves & roots. Actually, one of them just have finished flowering, the other one has fully opened flowers. Lately, I have noticed something growing at the base of the leaves (at both of the orchids), which seem to be new spikes...Is it possible to start blooming again?!!!or I'm dreaming...

I hope so...Thanks for encouraging.Tagore told me that I have to have 15 threads(?!)to be allowed to post pictures.I need to search this site to find its secrets...

Cynthia, I'm almost speechless after seeing your collection...BEAUTIFUL!Thank you for sharing it with me.I also have a "collection" on my web site, but the content is different: CLOUDS - as I am a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society... Orchids are a new passion, since I got the first one in February, in Mai the second.Hopefully, their number will grow, though I can't dream about a big collection. Concerning the new shoots on my two Phalaenopsis, they have the same segmented structure like the stem of the flowers, different from the roots. What else they could be? (I'm going to try a new upload..) Aniko I find out finally that the upload function does not work!!!hahaha Last edited by Aniko; 07-12-2006 at 11:28 AM.

| it is unusual for a Phals to produce new flower stems this time of year as it needs a cool period to set flowers and usually would not have the strength to produce two flower stems this soon. It is probably what we call air roots. Very common and normal after flowering.

yeah, i've got a little equestris that bloomed very nicely this spring--and is starting another spike. go figure. i have three more in high bud, but i repotted them in march/april and i suspect that stressed them into blooming again.

Positively stressing orchids? Interesting...! (I searched the Gallery to see how looks like an equestris - is very pretty.) Last edited by Aniko; 07-20-2006 at 09:51 PM.

I do nothing special: I keep them in a bright light next the window facing south, but not direct sun.The room temperature is between 75-78 now in summer, due to air-conditioning we have not much humidity, so I spray daily a little bit the sphagnum moss on the top of the roots to keep them alive.I give plenty of water about once a week when I use an "orchid food".This is a bit different then usually is recommended, is not a balanced one, since it's composition is 19-31-17 not 20-20 20.I put 1/4 teaspoon in a gallon of water ( a light dilution ) as recommended on the label. The brand name is "Schultz".

Hi All. I received a dendrobium as a gift and I reall want to keep this one alive. It is flowering, was flowering when received. It is potted in gravel in a plastic pot with holes on the bottom. I have been watering it twice a week with two to three days in betwen each watering. The leaves are turning yellow and dropping off. I lost three leaves last week and another is turning yellow today. What's going on and what can I do?
