| Is my Phal orchid dead or in rest? When one of my Phal orchids was completely done with its blooming period, I cut the stem about 12 inches from the base above a joint. I've since noticed that the steam has turned from green to brown, despite my taking care of the orchid as usual. The leaves were once healthy during blooming and gradually turned soft as the orchid bloomed out. The leaves are a medium shade of green and still soft. Since the stem is brown, is the orchid dead? I don't know what to do next. Any help appreciated! |

| The orchid is not dead. The bloom spike has completed it's bloom cycle and the plant is discarding it. Often some plants can throw another branch off the spike but just as often do not. You can cut it down to an inch or so. The soft leaves can be from under or overwatering. You should check the roots. If they're dry it's underwatered. If they're soft and mushy, it's overwatered. |
