Phalaenopsis orchids and air conditioning

Hello. I received my first orchid in October of 2006 and its 2 spikes bloomed continually until August 2007 - and I was hooked on orchids!

Living in a condo, space limitations determine that I have my maximum of Phalaenopsis orchids. My problem is that the best window (east, lots of light, minimal sunlight and is the only window suitable for the orchids) is also the room where the air conditioner is located. For health reasons, the air conditioner must go on those +30C humid days. I have the a/c set for 25C - 28C but the first time it was turned on last week, within a day one orchid dropped all its blooms. Since then the others "seem" ok. A couple have several with new spikes started and I don't want to jeopardize them.

I'd appreciate some advice please.

Thanks
Ontario Sue

Phalaenopsis orchids and air conditioning

Hi Ontario Sue
""For health reasons, the air conditioner must go on those +30C humid days. I have the a/c set for 25C - 28C"".
I grow all my Phallies in a controled greenhouse.
I do not have aircondition as such but run humiditifers and exhaust fans and inlet fans plus heater.

I would assume that it should be no problem as long as it was not blowing directly on the plants.
I have an ossalating fan the sweeps across the orchid house but is about 1 meter above the plants.
This gives a gently wave to the flowers on tall spikes but keep the air moving.
My humidity sometime in our hot summers gets as low as 20 to 30%, butmost days in summer it is around 505 to 60%+.
Phallies are fairly tuff if good conditions suit them.
My 1 pennys worth of info.
Cheerio
Ron

Thanks Ron. The only other alternative is to move them to the living room and buy a table for them - and I'd rather not do either since the spot where they are is perfect otherwise.
