New cattelya - Yippee!

Found this cattelya at a temporary roadside stall. But it came without a tag. Does anyone know what type it is?
I'm also showing a close-up of the roots, which are in good shape. Unfortunately, I can see that this orchid has already outgrown its pot, and there's a new shoot on its way that going to be dangling in mid air unless I do something. The potting material is just chunks of wood, which the roots have completely encased. With the extensive root system of this orchid, I can't see how I'm gonig to get it out of the pot, without damaging the roots. Can I just put the whole thing (basket and all) into another one that is slightly larger and count this as a repot?
Any advice appreciated

Hi! What a pretty Catt! It's possible to take guesses, but there are so many hybrids out there, that doing a positive ID is impossible.

It's a gorgeous plant, however, so just enjoy it for it's beauty

As far as the re-pot goes, I would wait until it's done blooming. If you soak the whole thing each time it dries out, it will do fine! Give it good light...

dont repot. Just put into a bigger pot. It will rebloom faster for you, 3 months to rebloom.
if you cut it up and it also depend how you cut.It might be another year before you see
another bloom.
Before you buy another plant, which direction is your plant going to face? Right now
the sun will be in north or North east where you can get about 3 to 4 hours of direct sun.
Put the plant in shaded ... Alamak let meet and talk.

Nice find. That does have some crazy root growth. That should put on a great show next year.

It does not look like your orchid is in a pot at all. It looks to be in a plastic Vanda basket. It looks like large openings on the side in a regular square pattern.

You can certainly buy a 6 or 8 inch basket and place the orchid directly into it without removing the original basket.

Your orchid looks much like Blc Copper Queen. A big hint will be if the flowers open a light red and change to orange after about a week.

That is an incredible find. WOW!!!

I think a pot in a pot is your best option. I noticed when I was at the Santa Barbara Orchid Estates they did exactly that. Lots of their orchids were growing in about 3 layers of wooden baskets.

Sandra - to make you even more jealous - I got it for a steal! S$13, which is about US$9.50

The temporary stall was packing up, so I was able to bargain it down.

The last bud has opened, and there's no real change in colour, compared to the other three. The petals just slightly more orange than the older flowers, which are more orange-yellow.
