Dear Firecat, I have good news and bad news. First the bad news: This is a close-up, cropped photo of anordinary white hybrid phalaenopsis. What you see in the picture is only the lip and column, the petals and sepals are all cropped out. The title of the picture "Heart of Moth" isnt' an orchid name or a particular kind of orchid. It's just the title of the picture. Phalaenopsis orchids are sometimes commonly called "moth orchids."

Now for the good news. White hybrid phalaenopsis orchids are among the most extensively hybridized orchids. You will be able to find hundreds of them just about anywhere you look for orchids. Some of them will be really cheap too. You'll find them in places like Lowe's and Home Depot, probably for less than $20. If you do a google search for somethign like "white phalaenopsis" you'll probably find about 50 places that sell them and you'll find a tn of pictures so you can see what the whole flower looks like.

Thanks Kmarch,
I new it had to be a Phal of some sort but I was fooled in this one. I thought , "well this is something I never seen before" I have about 15 or so Phalaenopsis to date and I like them all. I also have about 95 total at this time. I like most all orchids, and collect what ever sems to catch my eye. I was going to do Slippers too but I am already goving over board as it is.. Thanks for the info on the Heart of Moth. I was taken in by it's beauty, and I wanted one.. Dumb me. Milt

Hey Milt (one of my favorite orchids, by the way) - your photo looks like one of my white phals (note: looks like - probably isn't the same!) See my photo below; this cross is Phal Taisuco 'Sheen' x Phal Taisuco 'Mercy.' It's a big one; the flowers are the size of the palm of my hand.

Isn't it funny how when you look at things close up, they look so different than from a far? You see all the beauty uniqueness of it from a different perspective.

Orchidmentia, I need to learn to take beautiful close-up pictures like you. Very pretty.

Thanks! Orchids make it easier - they don't move around much.
