| First, a thanks to everyone that welcomed me! What a great friendly bunch of people. Now, for the first question I recently acquired a Jewel Orchid. It's in a smallish but deep pot with a new small growth emerging. It was in bloom when it arrived, so now what. Do I cut the spent flower stalk off? The older part of the plant is quite spindly. About a foot tall with 2 leaves and then the bloomed out flower stalk. So, should I cut the old part down and re pot the whole thing. And, what do most of you pot these in? Sharon |

| You can always cut the bloom stalk of an orchid when the flowers are done. Jewel orchids cover a variety of terrestrial orchids and the care is varied. Most like a lot of water and heavy shade. Most jewel orchids are short and your description of a foot tall and only 2 leaves is confusing. You should post a photo after you have 5 posts. | OK. I bought it on ebay and it was supposed to be Ludisa Discolor. Not sure of the spelling. Anyhow, maybe it's not quite a foot tall, but the stem is at least 6 inches, then there's the flower stalk. There was maybe 4 leaves originally, but 2 died shortly after I got it. It was kind of cold outside when it arrived. The 2 leaves left look alright, but kind of silly. Will cut off the spent flower stalk. What medium is recommended for potting them? Sharon |
