Could be a number of different things. Normally I would say something like not enough humidity or water but I'm not familiar with Florida growing conditions. Do you grow indoors or outdoors? We have a lot of Florida members though that may be able to steer you to a more certain reason. Are they the buds at the very end of the spike that are smaller than the rest of them? You might try doing a search for buds blasting on the forum you will come up with a lot of threads to skim through.

I am only 20 miles away and always see the youngest buds on a Vanda fail to open.

My cause is bringing them to outdoor shows but the reason is the same, the buds are dehydrated from the heat and wind.

Weather has been terrible so far this month. No rain No humidity and 90 degrees every day.

The result is the same the buds dehydrate.

You appear to have just bought the Vanda. It came from a greenhouse that probably grows nothing but Vanda. They probably were getting watered 2-3 times a day. Then they went to your home and the water was reduced a lot.

I just ignore losing a few buds. I grow mine outside and loose a few small buds on every plant. I just accept it. The rest of the flowers make up for it. The plant is healthy.

You can possibly save a few more and extend the life of the flowers by moving it to a cooler area of your home when it is in flower. Once the flower buds have set it is not necessary to stay in the high light levels and the plant can even be moved indoors to enjoy the flowers. (stay away from air conditioning ducts as the draft will also dehydrate the flowers)
I find that spraying the flowers with Worm Tea also extends the life of the flower as it aids water retention in the flower.

Stop by and say hello at the Punta Gorda Hibiscus Festival June 14th at the park on Marion Street. 8-2.
