Great looking Oncidium!! I love the color and the pattern. As far as when you go away.
If you give the Oncidium(s) a good soaking, it should be fine. The Phal I would be a
little worried about since they like to be kept evenly moist. I don't grow any Cyms.
or Vandas, but hopefully some of the other members who do can give you some advise
on them.

It depends on many factors: the plants' needs, your temps, your humidity, what they're potted in and therefore how fast they dry out, etc., etc., etc.

If I'm gone longer than a week I get someone to come in and give them a water while i'm gone.

Nice flowers. I grow a lot of Cyms. and I leave them for up to 2 weeks without water but only in the winter. It also rains if I'm lucky while I'm gone.
I think in your case you will need someone to water at least once. It is summertime and I doubt it will rain.

If you can reduce the light levels while you are gone, the plants won't need to be watered as often. Lower light won't hurt an orchid for two weeks whether you grow it inside or out.

I have never had problem to leave my phal for 2 weeks (except in August, I tend to ask my neighbour to water them). I am based in uk too. My worry usually is for the finer roots like oncidium (maybe I stress too much) or odontoglossum. I tend to group all the orchids together, I place them over tray full of stones and water to keep the moisture up and I pray the Orchid goddess

Hi,

I've Phals and Dendrobium which are just flowering (the first flower has opened up, after I bought it from a nursery with stalks full of buds). I have to travel now. Is it OK to leave them without water for 3 days, esp since they are flowering now??

Thanks
Satish

Welcome to the Forum Satish,

You should update your location details, advices maybe different depending your location.
Anyway, to come back to your question, I will not worry for 3 days without watering. Orchids do not need to be watered everyday.

Good growing

Thanks! The only reason that I was worried was because they were flowering and has quite a few buds. Did not want to see them undernourished. BTW, I live in Bangalore, India.
