Talking Orchid Seed

I am new to the orchid forum. I need help and I know it probably won't be easy. But I am going to try and raise an orchid from seed.I have a Cymbidium orchid and it is the most beautiful yellow. How do I go about finding their seed and how do I plant them. Do I have to wait until the flower is dry. What do I use for potting soil. Any help will be appreciated. I am from N.C. Jean

Nice to meet you Jean. Love North Carolina--a state with both mountains and sea shore Welcome to the forum!! You came to the right place for help with your questions--
Unfortunately, I am not the person to help you with cyms, but we have many members here who do grow them and I am sure one of those will pop in here soon. Hang on a bit and welcome again

Jean,

Orchid seeds are found in the ovary behind the flower. They develop after the stigmatic surface of the flower is pollinated and the resultant pod grows anywhere between a few months to a year (or more). The seeds generally require a very specific environment in order to germinate and grow, and are often grown in sterile flasks with sterile media. It is not a simple procedure, nor one that lends itself to doing it without certain equipment and "aseptic technique". There are many websites that will provide lots of information about orchid hybridizing and germinating orchid seeds. Trying doing a search and looking at those sites to get a better idea of what's involved.
