What's wrong with my epidendrum?

This is an Epi Fantasy Valley 'Star Burst.' It was in bloom for three months and has been growing a lot. The other day I noticed the black leaf - I think it's a blighted new leaf - and checked the plant for others; this was it (see mark on photo). A problem brewing, or one of those things? Plant has a lot of new growth after being repotted in Feb (it was badly, horribly root bound).

Your plant looks very healthy, it's hard to see the bad leaf in the pic , perhaps when you repotted you bent the leaf and didn't notice, or something like that.

From what I can see of the photo, I don't think your plant's in any serious danger. It looks like the terminal leaf has died off (aborted) for some reason. If no other leaves go this route you're probably just find to remove the dead leaf and let the plant continue on. If the point of growth has also died off this cane may not bloom but that won't cause any long-term harm to your plant.

Probably nothing to worry about. Sometimes a leaf just aborts. But your plant looks light it may not be getting enough light. Reedstemmed Epis will take very high light. What happens with low light is that they will not bloom until they get very tall, as they need more leaf area to support blooms. The loss of the leaf may be related to the plant being a little weak from lack of light. This plant needs direct light shaded with a filmy curtain or venetian blinds turn to give about 50% light or more (when the sun shines, noting where you are). You may even be able to put the plant outside in full morning sun, or full sun anytime it is cool. I southern Cal. we grew these out doors all year.

The picture is a little deceptive ... I took at 2 or 3 in the morning.

Thanks to you and everyone for answering - the plant has a lot of new leaves, so perhaps this one just didn't make it.
