where do you stay? May be you can try to grow the cymbidium in a narrow container. that usually "force" them to bloom often. try that. A thight root work for my weather. May not work for your area. |

From the sounds of things the cym needs: 1. to be repotted. It sounds as though it is still in the original pot and by this time the potting medium is broken down and the roots will rot. 2. Light: Being inside it won't get enough sun exposure. Cyms like lots of morning sun and then bright light the rest of the day. If its really nice and dark green its not getting enough sun. The leaves should have a slight yellowish tint to them. & 3. they need chilly night time temps in the fall to help set the buds for blooming. I live in a moderate climate & mine stay out all year round, only needing protection when the temps go below 35 or so(maby two weeks out of the winter) The area in which you live would be very important in order to achieve all this. |

Sounds like might be the light. Even the ones I keep outside will not bloom if it gets too much shade. Hummer344 is right. The leaves should not be really green. The temp. might also be the culprit if it is indoor year round. Maybe you can post a picture of it and of the pot it is in.

A picture would be handy, easier for us to look at it than you trying to explain what it looks like.

Cyms won't bloom if #1 - they are not getting enough light and this would be very hard to provide growing it indoors. Also, they really don't need a humid environment. #2 - They need a temperature drop for several nights during the fall to initiate flower spikes, also very hard to do indoors. #3 - your plant is so overpotted that it is spending it's energy making roots to fill the pot instead of flowering. We really can't help you much more than that without knowing where you and your orchid live.

Firstly, I want to thank the site administrator, fred, for so much kindness. It's really comforting that someone cares so much about new and unexperienced people ^^ I talked to a friend about the pot, but she said it's ok by now. I digged a little bit and I saw the roots were in good conditions, there were no signs of they rotting, moreover, tha pot has holes in its bottom, thus the remaining water just flows out. I'll make a picture of the plant and upload it here, so that you can see it. I've moved the plant to the balcony, it gets much more sun, but its pretty hotter outside, it seems to be ok, by now. I'll bring a picture thankssss ^^ |
