Questions about my Dendrobium

Hi everyone,

This forum's great & would like to learn about orchids before i start contributing

I've got this orchid from mum about a week back- think it should be a dendrobium-do correct me if it's not... I kept it out of my home with some shade, and in a week's time, noticed the recently blossomed flowers (the top white ones bloomed during my charge) are 'paler' or whiter... while the flowers that bloomed during my mum's care (she has kept it indoors previously) are more purplish.

Could this mean that this orchid should be kept indoors instead? I'm not sure if the paler flowers meant they're receiving too much light...

Appreciate your help on the above!!!

Pale flowers usually mean just the opposite, that the paler flower bloomed in lower light than the fully coloured ones. Another factor that can affect flower colour is temperature. Sometimes some orchids, when flowered in warmer conditions, are less vibrantly coloured. Sometimes though there are slight variations in colour for no cultural reason.

welcome aboard. Dont worry too much about your orchids. Unless it wilt. What you have is
Dendrobium mini. it is easiest to bloom of a starting orchids. where do you stay? Let have
coffee. Unless you stay in Jurong which is too far for me.
Anyway, There will be a orchid society meeting this coming sunday 2pm at Biotanic garden.
would be great place to "sooth" your orchid addict. There will be a orchid sale at the same time. great place to buy more orchids!

Hi kmarch,
Thanks for your help- you could be spot-on, as the charcoal looks really well-weathered... The weather here in Singapore is pretty humid/warm, so the reasoning that it gets paler due to temperature could apply too...

Hey digitalgate,
Wo, glad to know there're fellow S'poreans here too... thanks for giving my plant the ID...since this Dendrobrium mini is supposedly easier to grow- I'd better get it well taken care of before i get nagged at by my husband

tizzycat, articuno75, orchid_gal & jay
The orchids are looking really pretty now and hope I can get them to rebloom when this flowering season is over! Not much confidence though, cuz i killed a Phal before and need to be really careful this time...
