Is this a keiki?

Is this a keiki on my phalaenopsis?

Sorry about the picture quality - I'm no better at photography than at orchid cultivation.

Hi Andy, Welcome to the forum!! Hope you enjoy it here as much as the rest of us. We can help you with tips on orchid cultivation and as far as photography, there is this Aussie member named "Anton" who will answer any questions you may have about taking great pictures. He's like an extra, added bonus

Anyway, you sure do have a keiki. Congratulations. I have been waiting and hoping my plants would do that. So far, no luck and I have quite a few phals...

Hi and welcome Andy. You've come to the right place to learn about both.

Andy, that's definitely a keiki!

Patlee, I've used KeikiPro to start keikis on some of my phals. Sometimes I've ended up with new flower spikes instead of keikis... but I'm happy with both! I have a phal that was given to me with two keikis and one of them has a small flower spike! I'll have to post photos when it's in bloom.

Thanks for the responses, though I'm not sure that I deserve any congratulations - this keiki is of the unplanned variety.

Until now I've been feeding and watering the plant only via the roots, without any misting. Should I do anything differently, either now or as the keiki starts to develop roots?

It seems to me that Phal keikis develop both in size and root development at vastly different rates. I'm guessing that it's just genetics. Hopefully because your keiki spontaneously developed, it will continue to develop just fine with the conditions you're providing.
