| Euktar, I have a Vanda and two Ascnda's that I spray a lot and have never had a problem with root rot on them. My Vanda is in a basket with medium so I do watch not to overwater the medium. My Ascnda's are bare root. I am not the expert so hopefully some of the Expert Geeks will educate both of us.

| It's difficult to answer your question without knowing more about your geographical location and growing situation. Vandas like many orchids can rot if kept too wet or worse yet kept wet while too cool. If you're spraying in the morning and they have tine to dry off during the day (if oyu have good air circulation) You're probably ok. It's tough to say for sure without knowing your geographical region, your temps, humidity level, air circulation, etc.

| I'll tell you a bit about the conditions my vanda lives in: I have it indoors, the temperature is soft for the whole day, it doesn't vary very much, it's quite warm but without being too much, about 20-25ºC I guess. I have other plants there and they seem to be happy with it. The window gets sunlight almost during the whole day, but I have my orchids in a position that enables them to get only DIRECT sunlight in the morning, for the rest of the day they get only indirect sunlight. The place I live in is quite humid, as it's quite close to the sea, so, normal humidity is quite high, but, besides, I mist them in the morning, more or less at eight o'clock. They get plenty of water, I water them with a kind of pressure-watered gun (it's not harmful for them). Then, I water them in the late evening, at eight o'clock in the evening, more or less. But the vanda has enough time for its roots to dry in the meantime. The problem is, as I said before, that I mist the leaves and the flowers as well as the roots, and the water stagnates in the centre of the plant, where the leaves join and create like little pools. I would like to know if there's danger of it rotting like in phalaenopsis, or if it's ok if it has enough time to dry before I water them again. Thanks again ^^ |

| can you put the plant out door and out of direct sun? It can rot. Then again where do you stay. If you stay in Duluth , i would say you fine. IF you stay in equator , I would say :"put it outdoor". Last edited by digitalgate; 04-23-2008 at 03:53 AM. |

| Yes, they can rot. you can remove the excess of water from the crown to prevent this. You can also regularly spray a systemic fungicide to prevent fungal rots. However, watering in the evening is usually not a good idea unless you have great air circulation. like outdoors. |

| I keep reading on websites that if you have a fungal problem you should sprinkle the affected area with cinnamon as a natural anti-fungicide. Is that true? Could it be used preventatively too? |
