First the photo has to stored on a site on the INTERNET.

Our gallery is available and if you use another web hosting site for pictures that will work as well. The code is different.

Look at any photo on out gallery since it shows you both codes. Under the photo (full size photo after clicking on the thumbnail) you will see three lines of code.

1. Direct Link Code: Often refereed as hyperlink. If you cut and paste this into any document (works well for emails) the photo can be displayed but it requires that the viewer click on the hyperlink and the code will redirect them to the page in our gallery. Many people do not like to view hyperlinks because of hackers using the technique to misdirect people. It is safe if it is not abused. For safety you should never click a hyperlink you do not know, especially if the www. address is just numbers. Here you can see that the code is going to orchidgeeks.com an address you can trust. Try clicking on it and you will see the photo open in a new window.

A hyperlink works for any web page not just photos. I often use it to refer to reading light levels with a camera.

Measuring light levels with an SLR camera

2. BB Image Code: Bulletin Board code works only within this bulletin board (the IT name for this forum software). If you cut and paste this code in the message on any thread in this forum the photo will appear in place of the code when reading the message. The code does not appear.

3. Tag Code: this code is used when you want to display the photo in the text of a message like in example 2 but the message and display is on another web site not this one. Cut and paste all the code from 3 into a message on another site and the photo will appear in that message.
The same type code is used if you have the photo on another web site and want to display it on this site.
is the code that makes this work. The http code for the photo must be inserted in-between the two quotation marks. Getting the http code is easy - on any web photo right click on the photo and select properties. The http code will be displayed as one of the properties. Copy and paste it into the code between the quotation marks and you are done Be sure not to get any extra spaces in the code. The quotation marks have no spaces between the " and the code.
Sometimes people get confused and think they can take their computer folder address and paste that into a message. The photo must first be hosted on a web site. In addition to our gallery there are numerous free photo hosting sites.
