Question Question about stems

I am an orchid newbie, recently purchased my first.
One of the stems, about 16" tall, is continually turning light brown/tan. I believe the stem is dying? Should I just cut it out near the base?
Thank you for your help.

What kind of orchid is it? Does it have an ID tag? Is it the flower stalk that's turning brown?

I think they do that after the flowers fall off.

Since the flowers are gone the plant no longer needs the stem. In the wild it would eventually die completely and fall off.

You can cut it off near the base to make it look better. Cutting it or leaving it alone makes no difference to the plant.
