I Goofed

I accidently broke off the flower spike and a cluster of leaves of a lady slipper. I have it in water and want to know if and how to plant it to make another plant? I am a novice orchid grower and have good luck with reblooms in fact this was the 3rd time this slipper had bloomed. Once a year since I got it. Help Please!

Sorry to hear about the spike. I think it might be possible for the flower to continue to bloom if placed into water, however you can't grow another plant from it. The plant will bloom again from a new growth, but never from the old. Paph's and Prag's are two species that cannot be cloned. If you can figure how to do it, you'll be rich.

If the spike has fallen off, I don't believe anything will come of that except a lovely cut flower display to enjoy. You said though a cluster of leaves came off too though. That sounds troubling because I'm not sure what to make of that. Does the orchid still have leaves? If it does, then the plant will be ok, despite the spike accident. But the "cluster" sounds odd. Can you elaborate?

yeah, it sounds like UniQ inadvertently divided the plant; do the leaves have any roots sticking out?

It has 4leaves one very small, and funny nodes at the end. The plant still has 9 leaves and 3 spike ends from previous blooms. I am not sure where it broke off from but new growth seems to come from theside between two leaves.

lol, I don't know how I missed it in the first post, but I failed to notice the mention that a cluster of leaves came off as well. My response would have been a bit different. Sounds like there's hope that it could survive as a division

Goofed

Sorry about the time laps but I was away on vacation for a week.
I am not good at this internet stuff to do pictures yet and am have some change over to digital problems with my home page plus camera download issues with settings. In other words if I had 2 weeks maybe I could get a picture but since all I did was put it in H20 while away. I forgot to tell my neighbor (plant care person) about it, but just checked it and I think the little nubs may have either grown or be swollen. No real roots but until it shrivelles and dies I am going for it! I really appreicate all the replies. I have my grandson for the next two days and my Dad is leaving for Pa. in the morning, driving by himself and is 83. Will have to get my Mom-in-law in the afternoon she is 87. So maybe I will get to my 18 orchids of various types in a day or two. Thanks, Linda
