need help with my phal

I have 7 phalaenopsis orchids. 2 of them are flowering right now but still have a few buds that need to open, On one of them the first flower has closed up and died and on the 2nd plant flower 1 had died and on the other side flower 1 is ok but flower 2 has closed and died, but yet it does have buds to open still, Is that normal ? I thought they all stayed opened in till they all died. Could you tell me why this is happening ? Smoke ? Cold ? I can't figure it out. Also one of my new plants that I just got started to flower but the flowers don't open all the way. I have been using schultz medium potting mix that has fir bark and horticultural charcoal is that ok to use ? Thanks for your time hope you can help !!!

Thanks for the help

they are all in side !!! I don't know how long the flowers were open on the new ones, It could be b/c they were from Hawaii and have now moved to cold NH. I have repotted a few of them and have noticed there roots seem black and dried up and broken, will the broken ones fix them self's ? The one thats the worse I left pretty uncovered in its pot and the roots are up high and out alot.

Your information is scattered so I will make some generalities from which you can ask for more specifics to your plants.

The amount of time you have had the plants is important. If they are new plants the stress of moving them to your home can easily cause the issues you are seeing.

Flowers will die oldest first and not all at once, although, on a good older plant they can be all open at once before the oldest starts to die.

Any change in condition, such as moving the plant to another room, more or less light, air conditioning, heating vents, smoke and more, can contribute to the problem.

It would be important for us to know how long the flowers were opened before dying, if it is not a new plant.

Try to narrow down the problem with the variables I listed and we will try to give you more information. I assumed you are indoors and not growing them outside. Let us know if this is is not correct.
