Catt. Blooms

I had a Cattlaya bloom last x-mas and it only lasted 1 1/2 weeks. I have another blooming now and its lasted over 3 weeks. And smells beautiful....
Is there a adverage time span for buds on catts?????? I have been using worm tea on it.... Would this make a difference????????????

Dan, Cattlayas flowers (my favorite) don't last very long, unfortunately. Less than a month, more like 3 weeks is what I've read and experienced. I know Jerry has mentioned that when he brings his orchids to shows, he'll spray them with worm tea and that perks up the orchids. I never spray the flowers. I've read that flowers last longer if you don't mist them, don't know first-hand though.

I don't mist the bud, but do the leaves and roots generously.

When did you initially get the cattleya? Maybe it's healthier now than when it was in a store awaiting its new home

Dan,
My Lc. Gold Digger 'Orchid Jungle' which is approaching specimen size, had its
blooms last about 3-4 weeks for the past few years. This year (I've been using
worm tea for about 1 year), it bloomed the last week in January and it's not
showing any signs of declining. Maybe just a coincidence or maybe the miracles
of worm tea.
