I'm new to orchids as well. I'm also new to forums. I'm in desperate need of help with my catts. The leaves are yellowing at the base and I'm loosing leaves fast.

Prpblem solving starts with good culture. Do you have a good cattleya culture sheet? If not, check out this forum or go to the American Orchid Society.

How long have you had it?
Have you repotted it?

Thank you so very much for the reply. I will definitely get a culture sheet. I've had them for about three months. I started with four and I'm down to two. I haven't tried repotting them. I noticed that there are these flying bugs around the soil when I water. They look like very small gnats.

With gnats flying about and yellowing at the base, I would check the roots. Sounds like root rot. How often do you water? Also when you say "soil", what are the plants in?

Hi and welcome to the forum pritchct. When you say "soil", are you referring to dirt
potting soil? The tiny flying gnats are probably fungal gnats. They are usually more of
a nuisance then detrimental to the health of your orchids.
