Sogo Doll

Here is a composite of multiple photos of my new Sogo Doll purchase. Are the black marks on the leaf in #1 of concern ? Any comments on the roots ? What am I looking at in the far right photo ? Thanks ! I can repost with less photos if the composite is too small to see anything. Sorry, I'm learning.

Bloomigal, I definitly would repot...........I don't think the roots look real good. Do you have any experience with repotting? Regarding the black spots, one of the older, wiser, forum members will have to respond. Good luck!!

Hi Janice ! I repotted Mom's orchids this past summer. Well, we won't talk about that. Actually now that I look back it was a learning experience. I think that the medium that I bought was too big and chunky--got it at HD and I cannot recall the name, etc. Except that the pieces were big & it was endorsed by AOS. My only other choice was some stuff that loked like potting soil(dirt) and I was pretty sure that was wrong.
I found a fantastic video series on repotting a Den which is how I found this board ! I can snip dead roots and the such and can wiggle medium around the roots.
Can I sulfur dust the roots ? Any pointers re medium ? Should I lose the clay pot ? Other suggestions. Right now the roots are dry which might be a good thing for rot; I would mist them prior to cutting out the dead. After potting would you water or no ?

Thanks !

Bloomingal. Soak your plant in the REVIVE RECIPE for a while first before you do anything. This way you can tell what roots are viable. The Sogo Doll will do great in a bark mix. Schulz Orchid mix is easy to get at Wal-Mart. It'll be fine in the clay pot.

This stuff does wonders, and you can replace the vitamin pill with Superthrive. I cheated and didn't use the towel overnight part. Just the four hour soak. Still did worked magic. This will make the roots more pliable and what are dead, you can remove easier. This gives the plant a super boost of energy.

Bloomingal, see the thread above "Hawkinsara" by Nancy, (2/5/08). They talk about the Sogo Doll and there's lots of good information on the plant.
