Woa I purchased a Oncidium Sharry Baby
this weekend. I beleive the grower said it blooms in December. But thats all I got, help. Can I treat it like my cats/phals, or does it need to kept wetter?? Man I hope I don't eat when it buds.....

Wetter than a Catt, drier than a Phal. East or sheltered south east light. Smells more
like vanilla chocolate. Grows BIG real fast. I've had mine a little of 2 years now and it
has tripled in size.

I water my sharry baby and phals at the same intervals but the phals are in sphag and the SB is in small bark. I ditto the comments on the growth; I feel like I could pull up a chair and watch it grow sometimes.

The grower said I would need to repot it next spring, which here in Florida means march,
and it was on its first year of growth, its doubled already, and the bulbs are huge. But very few roots are hanging so far. Ever try worm tea on them????????

All the time. I spray the leaves and pseuobulbs and even the blooms with it
once a week when in spike and bloom and every other week when not actively growing. Seems to love it.

Most of what you were told is correct but not fully.

Normal blooming for them is late summer or fall. If I do not buy them by July they are sold out. This year was unusual in that flowering was late everywhere and I still have plants coming into spike that will flower in about 8 weeks. That is very late for this plant.

I do not know how that will effect next years flowers.

there are at least three color varieties. The red and white is the most common, the solid red is my favorite and the red white and yellow does not have as much scent as the others.

You can keep them pot bound for a long time. i have 4 inch pots where the plant is two inches over each side.

treat them like any Oncidium alliance. less light than a
Cattleya and more than a Phalaenopsis. They like good air circulation.

I hope to see you in Saint Petersburg for the Green Thumb Festival April 26-27th.

Help!!!

Ok, I'm sorry to do this to you all, but can anyone tell me how I can post on here? I'm not able to find a posting link and I REALLY need to know why my orchids have a sap-type substance around the dead buds??? PLEASE HELP!
(P.S. if you can't tell, I'm REALLY a newbie!)
