Unhappy Brown Stem

I have an orchid that has been flowering for about 4 months. It had flowers growing on two stems (or spikes, not sure exactly which is correct). One stem has lost all it's flowers and so I cut it down to two nodes from the bottom. That stem is now slowly turning brown. Did I do something wrong? Is there anything I can do to make sure I don't lose it? Or is it hopeless? It's such a beautiful orchid, I'd REALLY hate to lose it. The second stem still has 3 flowers on it. It's a Baldan's Kaleidoscope.

I dont think you did anything wrong, the death of the stem is a normal thing, it has done what it was supposed to do and now is dying off, when it turns brown all the way down cut it off,the stems are passing things, its the plant that lives on.

I agree with Evagentry. You did nothing wrong Martine.

Its just that there are different school of thoughts when it comes to cutting stem especially when it is still green. You want to refer to this site:

Phalaenopsis Care

Happy growing.
