| rmt135, You have a very, very nice Paph micranthum or micranthum hybrid (as arleneg correctly surmised). I think there is a good chance that it is the species, but we'd have to get a bunch of measurements and a bunch more info about things like staminode structure to be sure. Paph micranthum is native to North Vietnam and China, but to my knowledge is not found in Thailand. Some find it difficult to bloom because it requires quite cold winter temperatures which it receives in the wild. For more info on this magnificent Paph, check out Phillip Cribb's Slipper Orchids of Vietnam.

| Looking at the pattern of the leaves might help too to determine if it is the hybrid. I was told by one Paph person that the pattern in the leaves was unique to every species Paph, and an experienced grower could identify Paphs out of bloom just by their leaves. If it is a hybrid, I would expect the pattern to differ from that of micranthum. Get some good pictures of the leaf pattern for future reference.

| rmt135, I do have one paph. I bought it a few months ago, it was without a tag, and out of bloom so I dont know yet what the bloom looks , like but the leaves are mottled simular to yours, mine is probably a maudiae type hybrid ,I dont know if i spelled that correctly. |

| I went down this afternoon to the nursery that I bought the paph & what did I saw, almost all his paph that were on display bloom. When I ask, did you do anything to made them bloom? Nothing special – just leave them there. Water once in 3 days. Now I wonder do I need cold winter weather to make them bloom. I gonna leave them outside tonight (its sub 20 in the early morning at my place) & try my luck if they bloom. Cynthia, I will take up your idea of taking photos of the leaves. Not only that - all my orchids & keep them. Thanks for the idea. Evagentry, Can we have a picture of your paph. We can learn together on keeping this beautiful orchid. |

| rmt135, I'd follow the instructions given by the grower/nursery as they will probably know how to best grow the plant in your part of the world. Given the fact that this plant is spiking and blooming so well, it is obviously getting the conditions it needs in order to bloom so I would not worry about giving it a cool winter. I'd take the advice of the grower/nursery.
