| Den. Dream 'Ace' In another thread I promised to post some photos of this orchid. It is a Nobile type dendrobium (the flowers grow out of the cane rather than on a stem). Unlike other nobiles that bloom once a year and need a cool rest each winter, Dream does not need the cool rest and blooms twice a year. This plant had 1000 flower buds at one point but a cold snap killed all except 200. About 1/3 are open in the photo. 2-300 flowes on a six inch basket are normal. ![]()

| Here is another one from the same grower if you like white. The hanging pot plant is 36 inches wide by 30 inches tall. It is tied to the hanger in order to stay upright. It is in a four inch pot. ![]() This close up of the flowers (about 20) is the little white spot on the top of the full plant. The photo shows about six inches of the plant. It should look great next year fully flowered out. There are actually about 40 flowers on the plant when photographed and they are lost on the big plant. Now 200 flowers next bloom will be impressive. ![]()

| JCG, I think all of your pictures of your dendrobium are beautiful. I hope I don't offend anyone - but, as I've been researching Orchids, I hadn't cared for the dendrobiums because of the cane look of it -they reminded of a skelton for some reason. But, after seeing your pictures - I have thought twice about that observation. And Jerry thanks for the great pictures and advice. Kath- |

| Another Look..... Kath, Thanks for your kind words re: my pictures. I picked up my Dendrobium at an orchid show, the first one I ever attended, and out of all the beautiful orchids there, I picked out this one. I don't know what made me select it and once I got it home, I didn't know what to make of it. It was only the second orchid I ever bought. And here I was with this really strange looking plant that didn't resemble any orchid I had ever seen, leaves turning brown and falling off, and I didn't even know how to take care of it. Go figure! However, I'm really thrilled with my selection. Thanks to Jerry(and a few other kind words from other members), I quickly learned that the leaves falling off was normal and I learned that it was an orchid that could withstand pretty much whatever environment I threw at it, within reason of course. That was nearly a month ago, and I am still being rewarded with lots of beautiful little blooms, in spite of its gangly-looking canes. I am so happy with this orchid and I am glad if I have caused you to take a second look at the beauty behind the funny-looking "face". june g. |
