Empty bud!

What's going on here! The two new buds on my mini catts are EMPTY!!!
They have a slight ruffle of flower on the edges, but the inside is empty.
Check out the picture---

Any thoughts?

Hmmmm... I hope you hear from people more informed than me.... but it might be that the sheath was so tough that it couldn't open all the way, and the full blossom couldn't emerge, just the lip. Do you get the impression that the rest of the flower is still inside the sheath? Can that be????

The plant bloomed a few months ago and these buds are definitely different. It is empty on the inside. It has a tiny slit that you can peek inside and see nothing. Just the ruffle on the outside.

kel80,

Have you try prying the sepals/sheath open a bit? Sometimes I do that when I see the bloom having a difficult time opening.

Be patient and see what they look like when fully open.
