greenhouse blues

Hi peeps i think i found the best place to find information about orchids and thats right hear . The only prob i have is this one finger typing LOL! Anyway thanks again for the posts thay are a grate help ! I have 5 phells 2 dens 3 dancing ladys ,its all i can fit in my windows right now. so i cant wate till spring to put up the GH!! Is ur gas heaters vented i have a thing called a salemander that runs off gas i would like to use as back up . My gratest fear is the transetion from home to GH some of my plants are 10yr old it would kill me if i lost one!!! TANKS!

YES, JimDandy, you HAVE found a great place for orchid information! Welcome to this forum... it really has helped me a LOT and there is so much information in various places here. If you look hard, you'll even notice a bunch of us from Maryland.

The Salamander runs on kerosene, not a good thing in a greenhouse. The fumes are terrible. You would have to vent the greenhouse at the same time it was on. As for the gas, it depends on the type of heater. Most nowadays do have venting hoods that you pipe through the wall with PVC for in home use, but usually it is not necessary in a greenhouse unless it is attached to your dwelling.

As a back up, it will probably be better than letting your plants freeze, but you might want to hold off to the last minute, as it will probably ruin all your flowers and buds.
