San Francisco flowers

Peoples

While in SF for turkey days, my daughter took me to the commercial flower market. There were many orchids for sale, some shops had them for more than I pay at home. I settled on one shop that had nice looking phal, but only in 4 colors. I only purchased a deep red and a spotted one. They had lots of bloomed out phal, but they did not have any tags so they didn`t know the colors.

I wish I had bought more they were only $3.00 each, I only bought 3 of the bloomed out ones and the 2 in bloom. I was still worried about the flight back and the plants being in pots. I was worried that they would be concerned about the pots.

WELL, nothing happened and I just ran them through the machine and they were done long before this old man with suspenders on. Of course now I wish I would have bought some lady slipper types and looked around for some cattalyas. There didn`t seem to be any at the shops that I was in.

I was surprised that at the shops I stoped in, no one packaged for travel, althought the people that I purchased from did a good job.

Now for my question I put the bloomed out ones in the over head compartment and had them aranged so I thought that they were safe. Well no way , I looked up there and some one was jaming his luggage in and I go O-WELL.

When I took the bloomed out ones out 1 plant had all but one leaf broken of and that one might as well be. So should I just throw it away or give it a chance. Is there any thing that would help save it .

Thanks

Charlie

What do you mean by "phap"? There's no orchid that goes by "phap." Do you mean Phal (Phalaenopsis)? I'm thinking you probably dont'
mean Paph (Phapiopedilum) since they are slipper orchids and you said you didn't buy slipper orchids.

Anyway, let us know what kind of orchids you have.

Many types of orchids are remarkably tough plants and can withstand quite a bit of abuse. It is hard to tell how extensive the damage is from your description (pics would help) but your plant could possibly go on to grow and bloom.

it sounds like you had a good time in San Francisco, they can grow many things there all year around, as for your plant give it a chance, if it grows fine if not throw it away.

If it has at least one healthy leaf (assuming it's a phal) I see no reason not to give it a chance.
