| Slc. Jewel Box Just ordered one as the basic culture seemed easy enough, and the flowers look lovely. Anyone have one or have any experience with them? Thanks, Tom499 |

| Tom, Treat it like any other mini Catt. Plenty of bright sheltered light for blooming, Water weekly, fertilize weakly weekly when actively growing and cut back to once every 3 weeks when it's not. Media that drains well (medium bark, perlite and charcoal). Good air circulation is important. Worm it whenever you do your other orchids. When it blooms, take a pic and post. Happy growing!! |

| Just found out that my Lc. Gold Digger 'Orchid Jungle' is now Guarisophleya Gold Digger 'Orchid Jungle'. They also changed Slc. Hazel Boyd to Guarisophleya Hazel Boyd. |

| Jewel Box isn't really a min-catt, it's more of an intermediate. I grew a Jewel Box "Dark Waters" until I got rid of it to move here. It's pseudobulbs were about 11-12 inches long. Because they contain a lot fo the red Sophronites, they benefit from condotions that are slightly cooler and slightly more moist than typical Catts. Other than that grow themlike a Catt.

| Is Hawkinsara Sogo Doll still Hawkinsara? I know that when I got it, it was Ctna. or am I just clueless?

| Thanks for the help guys, slightly cooler would suit my conditions even better. I'll stick with the Slc. tag for now then, and be ready to change it. |

Now having said all that, your Sogo Doll does have species in its background that have undergone name changes so and Sogo Doll does now have a different genus name. It is (are you ready for this?): Gratrixara Sogo Doll.

| Thanks for clearing that up, I received it marked Ctna., realized it was Hknsa. and just assumed it was changed to Hknsa. That is what assuming gets me, I admit to not doing my homework, and just changing it to Hknsa. Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it so much. I am going to have to get used to that new name, doesn't exactly roll of the tongue lol.

| Given all the recent name changes combined with the carelessness in tagging demonstrated by so many nurseries I have (for better or worse) come to be quite suspicious of many tags, especially those in the Cattleya alliance. The original tag that said Ctna. was just plain wrong, it might as well have said Vanda. It's probably a good rule for all of us from newbies to veterans to never assume Cattleya alliance ingergeneric names are correct and just double check them all.

| came today, its smaller than the picture makes out and has two dodgy roots (after chopping the off the rotted ones) I cannot pot it up as its so top heavy. I've left it potless for now before my anger finishes it off. Any tips to save it? It has two bulbs and one dodgy backbulb. This is the fourth plant I've bought from him, all the rest were ok, I repotted them before the coconut fibre rotted them through, but this one seems to have suffered before transport. Shame |
| ||||
| Tom, If the root system is in that bad shape, I would contact them and tell them of the poor quality the plant is in. If they are a reputable vendor, they should send you a new one. You can try and pot up the one you have with a slender wooden stake for support. Make sure you use a good draining media if you do. Depending on what's left of the roots, you may have to sphag and bag. |

| I've sent him a message, hes been a good replier, hopefully something can be sorted. Hes an ebay seller, but hes had 100% in the past 12 months and I highly rate my other buys from him so It should be ok. I'll try potting again, im using medium bark, in a tight pot, should be ok. |

| Well the first thing i'd do is contact the seller and see about a replacement. If it has few to no roots and only 2 pseudobulbs, this plant has a ways to go just to stabilize itself. But...if you don't want to go that route and just want to pot it up, you can stabilize the top heavy plant in its pot by potting it as best you can then sticking stakes in the pot, one right next to each pseudobulb, then tie or somehow attach each of the bulbs to a stake. Use a rhizome clip to further hold the plant.
