My Blc. Eagle Eye 'All Victory' has two buds YAY

:I cant believe it. I think I am doing something right.
My Cattleya has two buds.
Now for the questions.
How long will it take for the buds to open?
I had it outside but I brought it in once I noticed the buds.
I also have another cattleya which had a bud and a bug ate it.
I WAS SO MAD LOL.
So I did not want to take any chances.

I CANT WAIT

Hi Sunsea,
I had to reply to this thread ! Well Done !
I too have a Blc.Eagle eye."All Victory" which I got in July 2006 with one sheath - when it opened it only had one flower - & you could see a very small black bud, which hadn't developed next to it) and at the moment is in sheath again..and looking through with a torch I also have 2 flower buds this time! I'm very Happy
I love the flower & scent of this!

Very nice and congrats on the buds. I can't wait to see them open. I am waiting for my first Catt. bloom as well, but mine are still in sheath.

This might be a dumb question to ask but what is a sheath?

In the photo you can see the bud developing behind the sheath. Not all Catts will produce a sheath, or so I'm told. Some just produce the spikes from the leaves.

Oh okay.
Thanks for clarifying that.
I actually have a cattleya that is outside and it has a leaf that looks like a sheath.
Its a small cattleya but I have no idea what type it is.
I currently have 4 cattleyas.
One of my favorite orchids besides phalaenopsis.

All of the cattleyas were given to me by my dads friend who had a green house.
TONS OF ORCHIDS AND ORCHID SPECIES.
So they were given to me in bad condition.
Now they are healthy and actually flowering for me.

Congrats Sea Sun. Try not to move or rotate the plant in its current location.
Granted if you move it to water, place it back in the same location and position
that it was. Since you changed it's environment by bringing it inside, I would
try not to disturb it's location now while in bud. Sometimes they can be a
little tempermental about being moved while in bud and the buds can blast.
(turn black and die before blooming). This is always not the case, but it can
happen if the plant is moved or turned too much.
The sheaths are the leaf-like material in the center of the growth that protects the buds as they form.
Can't wait to see the blooms. Good growing!!

...as you can see mine took "ages" ! but came through in the end ! look forward to seeing your blooms !

There will be a dead dried up inflorescence and possibly a dead sheath as well.

If the plant is mature enough and the cultural conditions required for blooming are given, then usually a Catt will bloom off every or nearly every new growth. Sometimes new growths will hold off from blooming for several cycles and will all bloom together.

The old growths will usually only flower if there is a sheath. If there's nothing, no sheath or only a kind of little "nub" they won't bloom. I'll try to take and post some pics to show you what I'm talking about.

Is it possible for a Catt sheath to sit empty for several months and then start to develop its bloom inside that sheath at a much later time?

Yes, it is. Sometimes they sit for more than a year before blooming.

Some Cattleya species are unifoliate (one leaf) and some are bioliate (2 leaves). When bifoliate and unifoliate species get crossed the result can be anything, even different on different growths on the same plant.

Sea_Sun88, nenella: Beautiful flowers. I have a 'noid' orchid with buds that look very similar to yours, Sea_Sun88. At least I know it is BLC. now, or so I hope

It has three buds but they are all quite a bit distanced from one another.

I will post a photo when they are in bloom.

I know it will be so nice to get 3 bigger flowers.
I am growing another sheath so I am keeping my fingers crossed lol.
We should do that.
It will be fun to see how different enviroments can affect the number of blooms.
And the funny thing is that they bloomed almost at the same time.
What part of this world do you live at?
I live in SD CA.

Sea Sun I live in France on the Atlantic coast.
My Eagle Eye 'All Victory' is also about a foot tall and has 7 leaves.
No new growth for the moment and I don't expect to have one before mid year if it does as it did last year... You're very lucky to already have a new growth !!
keep us posted and by the way Happy New Year to all!

SeaSun whenever I bring an orchid inside to enjoy the blooms I put it near an open window so it really doesn't notice a difference in climate. Congrats on the buds!

Happy New Year to you too Nenella!

I have this cattleya and it has two gorgeous flowers. I posted another thread about it.
This time the flowers turned out to be purple.
