Lightbulb Flower spikes on Phalaenopsis

Hello all, a bunch of the rescued Phals from February are showing what i believe to be flower spikes. I would appreciate if anyone could confirm/deny these potential spikes for me please

I don't think there's much room for doubt. They look like spikes. -- Bill

I have had the pleasure of looking at several spikes in the last few weeks from my collection.

They look like spikes to me too. I am not too sure of the 1st one.

Congratulations.

looks like spikes to me too and it is the season in the US when Phals would start spiking so... Enjoy your flowers! And don't forget us when you take your pics of your bloomed Phals.

Good growing its great to see the spikes forming at this time of year. Have you noticed on pic 2 that you may have a mealybug problem that needs spraying? It looks like one on the bark with tale tale signs on the leaves.

Great news Robb.

I'm curious to know how long it takes for another spike to grow after the plant is done blooming. Weather conditions are great here for spiking but so far, no signs on the few that bloomed in late summer.

Sandra I am not sure if there are any definitive rules about this. Some of mine start new spikes before the old ones have finished flowering and some take a few months to show any sign of a new spike. What I do know is that the majority of mine start to produce spikes now in the British Autumn as the weather gets cooler. Others will wait until the new year before there is any sign.
Terry

I took a closer look at the first picture. It looks like there "could" be 2 spikes starting in the same place. Have they gotten any bigger in the last couple days?

sandra: Phals. seem to be quite strange in their pattern of spiking. As Terry-sealy has seen I have a couple of them which started to spike when they were in bloom.

Some started to spike right after the last flowers on them dropped off (within a week or so).

And many of them spiked right after re-potting.

As always pikevi, thanks for this explanation. I have been very suspicious since my last incident that I'm doing something wrong with my Phals, not giving them the optimum conditions in which to thrive. Time will tell...

Terry, I seemed to have missed reading your reply here, sorry.

I've been reading a lot about others like you, whose Phals continually spike. I will be so happy to see some spiking on mine and have been looking forward to this time of year as it's Phal season throughout the northern hemisphere now. So far, nothing and I'm beginning to wonder if I may be doing something wrong. I know, patience....

P.S. I've heard Autumn in England is beautiful.
