well... being here could certainly help with that. We all sort of feed our addiction. And there's no excuse that hasn't been used to justify a new plant or two or three. LOL

I would hazard to guess that it's a dendrobium, of some sorts? Post a few more times and I guarantee that you'll get a concrete ID. Also, did you buy it in bloom? And if so, how long have you had it, and in what kind of conditions?

Something is not quite adding up here. Orchids are not commonly rooted in water. Very few orchids can successfully be grown in "potting soil". They are usually grown in a host of other medias and mixes - such as sphagnum moss, bark, coconut husk, and MANY others and combinations thereof. Can you post a picture of the entire plant? I agree with Fabolusus, from what I can see it looks suspiciously like a dendrobium. Just because the flowers are wilting doesn't mean that you are doing anything wrong at all. As with all plants, the flowers only last for a period - and many times you don't know how long they were blooming before acquired. mike

It looks to me that what you have is not an orchid plant, it's just a cut orchid. I have seen those blue dyed dendrobiums at several florists.

Right now, I'd have to agree with Fabolusus... a cut orchid... most probably a spike of Dendrobium.
