Phal Question...

I bought two plalaenopsis about 2 months ago. they are both doing fine, well I think they are.One of my Phal (Taipei Gold x Sara Gold) Had the bottom set of leaves (2) turn yellow and fall off. On top of that one of the flowers wilted and dropped of too. The remaining 3 leaves are a green grass color and look healthy. also the spike is still producing buds and the rest of the flowers are strong.. should I be worried.

Do you have the plant that's dropped the bud anywhere near a cold draft? Often buds will drop if exposed to spurts of cold air. The leaves dropping off sounds like normal.

My orchid is located in an area where is somewhat temp controlled so it couldn't have been exposed to a cold draft.. Its is totally weird the flower had been in bloom for about 3 weeks then it just withered and dropped of, but the older flowers are doing fine and are quite strong.

Scotta Bla BLazo is on a distinguished road
"Hello. I just got here to this site, and am in complete despair. I just recieved a beautiful phal for my birthday, where it is my first orchid ever, and I have several blooms withering and waiting to drop off. There are about 6 buds waiting to open. I have it in my bathroom, w/o direct sunlight, and not really any draft. Please give me some ghuidance as I do not want this to be a failure. It is the coolest thing that I have. Any
advice would be appreciated."

Thanks,
Scotta Bla Blazo

it could be just the shock of moving to a new location. although phals don't like cold drafts they do require air movement so a b-room might cause problems with still humid air. a good book for beginners is ortho's all about orchids u can get it at most big box garden centers

Kenz82's Phal sounds perfectly normal.

Scotta's may be good or bad. In general flowers are much more delicate than the plants. If I bring flowering Phals to a farmer's market I can expect to damge 15-20% of my flowers. Scotta if the buds continue to grow and open then the flowers that dropped were just finished. If the buds fail to open and fall off that does not necessarily mean the plant is not healty. The plant can be fine and is sheding the flowers and buds to retain its strength, because of strees it felt in moving to you home.

Give it time.
