does this help humidity?

i recently made wood baskets out of chopsticks for my baby vandas. they have bark and sphagnum moss, on the top of wine glasses filled with water and some polished rocks(see pic). i thought about hanging them or mounting them to my tree fern at first, but i need to keep them in my room since the temperature is constantly at around 70F. my question is, if the basket is bigger than the lip of the glass, does the evaporating water help with my orchids at all?

Try just buying a reasonably priced humidifier from your local Walmart and put it close to them. You may even like the effect yourself.I breathe better in my sunroom where I have several for my orchids then anywhere else in the house.I've been tempted to move my bed out there

The water will provide some humidity, where have you got it positioned in the room? If you put them by a window the sun's rays will heat the water more and give more humidity, and the vanda's will get more light.

Depending on your vanda type, most are quite hardy to strong light as long as they dont get too hot.

It will add to the humidity for sure. But I am not sure about their stability.

Adding rocks will only add to the problem of centre of gravity ( I am sorry viper ).Beside adding rocks is to increase the surface area presented for evaporation ( besides contact) and thus have to be above the level of water.

Lucinda Brown's suggestion is the best. We can buy one here for less that $50.

I used to have a few 8-10" trays filled with water ( and rocks) strategically placed, along with a humidifier and a fan.

I think it is very cute drey415! Very San Francisco too. A full humidity tray (stones, water and a tray) under your plants will only add about 10% humidity under the best of circumstances. I would think your humidity up there would be pretty good??
