Question Help me please

Was given an orchid as a present. Have no idea what kind it is but it had pretty pink, purple flowers on it.
I was told to cut off the spike once the flowers had fallen off just above the first node which I have done. Dont want to kill it off but can you please tell me what I do next? Does it need watering still and what can I expect to happen.

welcome fellow orchidian

hello and welcome to orchigeeks.com! lots of friendly helpful people here, so don't be afraid to ask questions!

first thing we need to know is what kind of orchid you have! so did yours come with a tag, or label? if not, can you find a similiar picture in our gallery http://www.orchidgeeks.com/gallery/index.php ?

once you know what kind of orchid it is, there are cultural (care and feeding instructions) sheets available at AOS http://www.aos.org/aos/orchids/page01.aspx for your particular type.

so far, you have done great by trimming the flower spike down to the plant base, now you get to wait a while for another flowering season

hope it helps to get you started,
robb

Hi, Huggies. Be careful not to water your orchid like a regular houseplant. Have fun!

Hello and welcome to the forum. It always starts with one, then if you ask just about anyone on here, it just blows up from there.
