Ratio of root size to pot

Is there a proper ratio between root size and the pot. Or, is it better to have roots against side of pot or a long way away?

I think the size of the pots varies with the type of orchid one grows.

I am not an expert but I think it will be easier for others to help you if you can say what type of orchids you are talking about.

Good luck.

You need a pot just large enough to hold the roots and allow for about a years growth. Sounds like you can use a good orchid book to start out. I've included a link of recommended books from the forum members. The Ortho books are excellent for beginners and can easily be found at Home Depot and most garden centers.

You want a pot that will just hold the orchid and a little space (1/2 usually). It you trim off bad roots and reposition the Orchid, you usually can put it back in the same size pot.
