Zygopetalum - ID

I attach photos of the Zygo that bloomed recently.( which is also the avatar)

I found a very similar picture on the net and it was named : Zygopetalum Mackayi 'Robusta'.

Could that be right? or , at least, close?

Thanks.

Hi pikevi,

I'm pretty sure your Zygo is not Zygopetalum mackayi (note capitalization) mostly because the colour/patterns of Zygo mackayi are very marked/clearly defined and not saturated as your's is. It'll be next to impossible to difinitively ID your Zygo unless you can trace it back through your vendor to the breeder and thus find out what it is. Here are 2 good pics of Zygo mackayi so you can see their typical markings: PIC1 PIC2

Thank you kmarch and MariahK.

Yep, I see there differences in all three flowers.

MariahK, yours looks very similar to what I have but the edges of the petals on yours are almost straight where as the ones on Kmarch's link and mine are very rounded. The colours are almost the same.

Thanks again.

The range of colours in Zygos is quite limited, mostly browns and greens in the petals and sepals and whites and purples in the lips so colour will rarely be a reliable feature in identifying a zygo. Also the form of the flowers are quite similar form species to species as well. For this reason I personally find Zygos to be quite tough to id and distinguish from one another. Are there any overboard Zygo nuts out there who grow lots and lots of them and can offer some advice on telling them apart?
