Timing of Cymbidium Growth

This is only the second growing season for me with cymbidiums - I now have five and last summer but one rescue plant which I didn't watch all that closely.
Question - Do new growths commonly develop on these in several "waves" through the growing season? I noticed some new growth right after blooming and now they appear to be sending up additional new growths. So, should I normally expect two surges of growth per season?

Yea, Cymbids don't always send all their growths at once. Often I find though that all of the growths will slow down/stop in winter when it gets cool and their flower cycle starts. Then in spring they resume where they left off.

It is also possible that what you are seeing now is flower spikes rather than new psbs. My Cyms here in the UK put on new growth (psbs) in the spring after flowering, and then start to produce their flowering spikes as autumn approaches. They eventually flower from Dec to March.

I have a cym. that is relatively new to my collection that has just decided to put on a new growth. Maybe it is our lovely mild fall weather? Or it's confused..............

Sure, here are a couple angles-one from the side of the plant the growth is on, and a profile view of the growth. That will be very weird if it is a spike, as the lady who sold the plant to me said it shouldn't bloom for about two years! I think it's a division from a larger plant..... If it is a spike, I will be the last to complain!!!

I figured it may be since I've read elsewhere that new leaf growths are more flat, while spikes are more cylindrical. I guess I'll find out either way soon enough.
