| Jay, The correct name of your ochid is Burrageara Stefan Isler. Here is a link to help you with it's culture. www.orchidweb.com/OrchidOfWeek.aspx?ID=217 |

| The 'Lava Flow' part of the name is what we call a "cultivar name" and is usually only given to awarded plants. We'd have to look it up to see if any awarded Burrageara Stefan Isler carries the cultivar name 'Lava Flow'. If awarded it should also cary the award abbreviations.

| I was trying to do google searches for this but just kept coming up with a lot of different places selling versions of this plant. They were a lot of differences between them in color. Is this normal? Tobi, My 'Lava Flow' actually is a bit lighter more like this one: http://www.kaleialoha.com/store/cart...nk&product=113 Jay |

| It is normal for there to be variation in a hybrid cross. These days some awarded orchids are cloned. There is substantially less variation among the clones.

| kMarch while cultivar names are usually given to awarded plants, I find they are used often for 'New' crosses of old favorites. If I cross two plants never before crossed I can register the name with RHS in london. If you then cross the same two plants, your cross would usually carry a culture name 'kMarch' or whatever. If mine was awarded you could not properly use my name without the cultivar name, since that would be incorrect and yours may not even look like mine. Crosses can be that different. To a large extent it is used a now for a nursery to distinguish their plants from a competitors. It is still a business at this level.
