Where have all the flowers gone?

Hi - I've had a Phalanopsis since April 7th which was a wedding gift - within the last two weeks ALL the blooms have fallen off - did I do something wrong or is this natural?

I'm a complete newbie and probably asking a really dumb question, but hope someone can help.

I've followed instructions for watering and it currently sits in the middle of a bright room with no direct sunlight.

Thanks for any tips/advice!

wow, plant's been blooming since april? good job.

they don't bloom forever; some phals last longer than others, depends on the grex. they usually lose their flowers in the order in which they opened up. or not. if the plant has good thick green leaves and isn't getting yellow or wilty, then you're doing fine. keep on caring for it and it may throw up another spike over the winter; cooler temps are what prompt phals to set spikes. that said, it could be anywhere from 90 to 120 days before you see flowers once a spike starts; again, it depends on the plant.

Sounds like you had a very nice blooming period. As Janet said, some phals will just keep it up. I have one that bloomed for 11 months. Now that it's done blooming, you can cut the flowering stem back and you may want to check the roots and see if it's necessary to repot. Check out the cultural sheet below and then fire away with your questions. Oh, and welcome to the forum.
