Vanda boxes

Peoples

Is the sizes of vanda boxes the inside of the box ?. As a four inch box, inside measurements are four inches. What width and thickness do you like to make the slats.

Could we get some pictures of your boxes.

Thanks

Charlie

Hello Brittany.

I assume you are trying to build some baskets.

I was planning to make some baskets too but due to time constraints I have postponed it.

Anton sent me some instructions way back in May,07 and I can send it to you (with Anton's permission) if you give me your email addy.I am not sure if it can be published here without some copy right issues.

Or you may ask Anton to help you too.

Good luck.

ps. If you have small plants and are planning to buy the baskets, I find that Asparagus steamers made out of stainless steel works well. And it is about $20CAD. I bought a couple on a sale for $10 each.

I will attach a photo later. And I think they will last for generations.

I have an orchid book that has a section on potting and making baskets. It says to use 1/2 x 1/2 stock for the slats. Most of the baskets I see are square dimensions. I suppose the height would depend on the plant your going to place within it. You want to support the roots and give it some room to grow since they don't like to me messed with.

My hubby got some 1" square pcs. that are 4ft long of cedar from home depot and made me a lovely basket 8in by 8in for my one and only vanda( at least til the next orchid show). They only cost 1.29 each piece(Canadian) so the basket cost about 6.00 to make. Flowerchild aka Cindy
