Roots above the soil?

I have a Dendroblum Salay Impact orchid and it appears to be growing roots above ground at each branching point. First of all, why is it doing that? I fear I may have caused this from over fertilizing. Second, should I clip them off to give the energy back to the plant or are these normal with this variety? I'm new to the forum so I can't post a picture, but hopefully you'll understand what my problem is. Thanks for your help.

From everything that I have read and seen on this forum, it is perfectly normal, and in fact a sign that you plant is healthy. I would not reccomend cutting any roots on a plant that are healthy. Roots do not stress a plant, they give energy to the plant. I suggest typing dendrobium into search and look at what has been posted, as I have seen many pics of dends with overflowng roots, and this is optimal for the plant. Over fertilizing would burn the plant and be obvious in the leaves as they would start to yellow and brown on the tips. Fertilizing the plant should be done at half or a quarter strength when using non orchid type fertilizer. There are many discussions about fertilizer, you can type that into search also. Happy growing and I hope this helps.

I agree with brookn DO NOT cut the healthy root off as it is normal for a Dendrobium to put roots out like that.

happy chatting
